Brief Report from the First International Monorail Association Members Meeting

at WSW- Wuppertal, Germany 26/11/2009

 

A full record of the meeting minutes is made available to IMA members and participants of this meeting.

 

These are the key decision being taken by the meeting:

 

NAME: The name of the Association will be “International Monorail Association” – represented by the acronym “IMA”.

 

INCORPERATION: The Association will be formally incorporated by notary act as soon as sufficient members have signed up.

 

CHARTER: The amended Association Charter is found hereunder and will be submitted to the next Members Meeting in Kuala Lumpur June 2010 for final approval.

 

TASKS: The tasks of IMA are:

* Organize the Global Monorail Sector

* Publish information

* Promote Monorail,

* Establish Performance Standards,

 

WORKING GROUPS: Two working groups will be instituted:

* WG-MPS =  Monorail Performance Standards

* WG-MOM = Monorail Operations and Maintenance

 

TRADE NAME: All external activities (brochures/website/newsletter) will use the Trade name “MONORAILEX”

 

MEMBERS FEE: Members join for a two year period initially and pay a once only “joining fee” and an “annual fee” based on company size.

 

ANNUAL CONFERENCE: Brisk Events will organize the next Monorailex Conference in Kuala Lumpur May/June 2010 under the auspices of IMA and with local support of Scomi. Date and venue to be announced.

 

MEMBERS MEETING: Next members meeting is planned for September 20, 2010, Berlin Germany, coinciding with Innotrans EXPO.

 

EXECUTIVE COUNCIL: Members are appointed by the General Members Meeting. Current EC Members:

* President - Mrs. Sumitra Lyengar, (Geodesictechniques, India)

* Gen. Secretary - Mr. Jaap Ketel, (Ketel Consulting Agents, Netherlands)

* Treasurer - Mr. Paul Tulp, (Arcadis, Netherlands)

* Member – Mr. Kanesan Veluppillai (Scomi, Malaysia)

* Member  - Mr. Sebastian Oertel, (Bombardier, Germany)

* Working Group – Operators - Vacant

* Working Group – Performance Standards - Vacant

 

DEFENITION MONORAIL

IMA definition of monorail - A single rail serving as a track for passenger or freight vehicles. In most cases rail is elevated, but monorails can also run at grade, below grade or in subway tunnels. Vehicles are either suspended from or straddle on a narrow guideway. Monorail vehicles are WIDER than the guideway that supports them. Trainsets should have a minimum passenger capacity of 40. PRT systems are excluded.
